CrossXSwords Classes
Fencing for all levels
Whether you are new to fencing or have been training your whole life, there are classes for you at CrossXSwords.
Our three class types are:
- SwordPlay (5-9yrs)
- SwordCraft (9-13yrs)
- SwordMasters (>13yrs)
We also offer adult beginners courses.

SwordPlay
Ages 5-9yrs
SwordPlay is our beginner program for our youngest age bracket, developed to shape your child into a well-rounded fencer. Classes teach fundamental fencing movements, basic offensive and defensive maneuvers to a foil target area (torso only) and an introduction to foil priority rules.
SwordPlay will develop your child’s fundamental fencing movements, interpersonal skills, and improve self-confidence and decision-making skills through experimentation and having fun.
Equipment
SwordPlay participants train with lightweight plastic gear.
SwordPlay Equipment Kit
The SwordPlay Equipment Kit includes a plastic foil, mask, fencing bag, skipping rope and other items for your child to use in practice at home.
This is supported by videos and a booklet on our Stack Team app for parents developed by our coaches to support parents and children develop coordination, agility and confidence in movement.
Fees
$150 per term (2 sessions per week for ~10 weeks – see timetable for exact dates)
PLUS
$100 one-off refundable SwordPlay Equipment Kit deposit.
Induction Sessions
To join SwordPlay, children must attend a FREE induction session. These are held twice each term, on the first and sixth Saturday of the 10-week term.
These sessions cover off important safety and group behaviour, and basic technique to help them transition into the class comfortably.
These sessions also allow the coaches to assess which class is the best fit for your child if they are on the cusp of the SwordCraft age group.

SwordCraft
Ages 9-13yrs
SwordCraft transitions young fencers into more complex physical and tactical training. Classes are run for foil, épée and sabre.
SwordPlay helps to develop technical and tactical competence whilst improving physical conditioning and increasing competitive skill and experience.
Individual Lessons
One of our coaches will pull you aside for individual/group lessons during the free bouting portion of the training session.
Equipment
SwordCraft participants train with electric equipment. Training equipment is provided of a refundable deposit. The expectation is that you will start to buy your own equipment to support your fencing after 6 months.
Fees
SwordPlay fees are $250 per term (2 sessions per week for ~10 weeks – see timetable for exact dates)

SwordMasters
Ages ~13yrs+
The SwordMasters class is for established fencers who have either aged out of SwordCraft or have previous experience with fencing.
SwordMasters sessions have a comprehensive training program that includes warm-up, physical preparation, footwork, drills, supervised structured and competitive bouting.
Classes are available for all three weapons: foil, épée and sabre.
Individual Lessons
One of our coaches will pull you aside for individual/group lessons during the free bouting portion of the training session.
Equipment
Fencers must bring their own equipment.
SwordMasters bouting requires fencing whites and electric fencing equipment. Wearing breaches is encouraged for epee but full length tracksuit pants are allowed. Shorts are permitted for foil and sabre.
Fees
$250 per term (2 sessions per week for ~10 weeks – see timetable for exact dates)
$25 per casual session

Adult Beginner Courses
This 5-week course is for teenagers (15+) and adults who are new to fencing.
Students will learn fundamental fencing skills and tactics in an exciting, team-based environment.
Classes run once a week for 5 weeks, after which participants have their ‘licence to fence’ in the SwordMaster training sessions.
We run two courses per term, so there is never too long to wait to get started!
Equipment
The first few sessions use lightweight plastic swords and the final few sessions introduce participants to electric equipment.
Epee Starters Equipment Pack
All epee starters are provided with their own glove, mask, and fencing jacket for an $85 deposit that is included in your course fee.
If at the end of the 5 week course, you do not wish to continue fencing at CrossXSwords, you can return your gear and receive a refund of your $85 deposit.
Or, if you sign up for a term of SwordMasters at CrossXSwords at the end of your course, your term fees will include an electric epee and body wire and you will be set up with your own suite of gear!
Fees
$210 for the 5 week course including an $85 refundable equipment deposit.
